EBNHC’S Elder Service Plan Becomes Neighborhood PACE: New Revere Site to Open in 2018
East Boston, MA, March 1, 2017—The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, which provides the residents of East Boston and surrounding communities with access to vital health care services, today announced that its Elder Service Plan is being renamed Neighborhood PACE, an abbreviation for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly. The name change comes in the midst of a program expansion that will lead to the opening of a new PACE center in Revere.
Neighborhood PACE, one of 121 PACE programs across the nation and the first in Massachusetts when it was founded in 1990, has locations in East Boston and Winthrop. The program serves residents age 55 and over who meet the program’s clinical and financial eligibility criteria and live in East Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Everett, Winthrop, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Stoneham, or Boston’s North End. Many elders are able to age in place in the community as a result of the program.
“There is tremendous demand for this program and the timing seemed right to choose a name more reflective of our mission, which is to ensure that older adults have ready access to the medical care and services they need to continue to live safely in the community,” said Laura Wagner, Senior Vice President of Geriatric Services at EBNHC. “The new name also brings us in line with sister PACE organizations doing similar work.”
Neighborhood PACE is designed to assist older adults who have complex medical conditions and require some help to live safely in the place they call home, by providing both health and social services. These services include primary and specialty medical care, home nursing and personal care, rehabilitation therapy, social interaction and programming, medications without co-pays, and medical transportation.
“Our health center cares for the communities it serves at every stage of life, including seniors, and Neighborhood PACE is essential to that continuum of care,” said Manny Lopes, President and CEO of EBNHC. “This name change is the first of several exciting developments this year for the program. We look forward to opening a new site in Revere next year that will further expand our capacity.”
The new Revere location for Neighborhood PACE will be on the site of the former Mottola VFW Post on Garofola Street, pending the requisite approvals from the City of Revere, and is expected to open in 2018.
Area residents will see the program’s new name and logo all around the community, on vans, and in Neighborhood PACE program locations.
The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center has been a vital part of its community for more than 45 years, providing health care to all who live and work in East Boston and the surrounding communities of Chelsea, Revere, Everett, and Winthrop. EBNHC’s 1,200 employees serve more than 80,000 patients and handle more than 300,000 patient encounters per year, more than any other ambulatory care center in New England.
