EBNHC Announces New Pharmacy Management

East Boston, MA, October 15, 2008—Providing our community with the highest standard of care is what the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) is all about. That’s why we’re so excited about our new pharmacy operator, Eaton Apothecary.

Eaton Apothecary is the leading niche provider of pharmacy management services in the greater-Boston area and has 20 retail locations throughout eastern Massachusetts. Founded on a commitment to serve the local community, Eaton Apothecary uses expertise and resources from its retail business to both staff and manage pharmacy operations.

“Our new relationship with Eaton is the ideal partnership,” said Manny Lopes, Vice President and Chief Information Officer. “Eaton is all about providing one-on-one customer service and that’s a commitment that is very important to us here at EBNHC.” Eaton Pharmacy hired every existing member of the EBNHC pharmacy staff and has already begun providing transparent patient services. EBNHC patients won’t see any changes as a result of the new management.

EBNHC’s pharmacy is a busy place. From its opening in 2003, our onsite 340B clinical pharmacy significantly improved patient access to prescription medications. Within a year, we filled more than 150,000 prescriptions for 18,000 users; three times the amount of an average retail pharmacy. Today, we fill 1,000 prescriptions every day and provide for outpatient services such as Senior Care Options (SCO) and the Elder Service Plan. A state-of-the-art fulfillment system helps us to meet this demand with speed and accuracy. Our ePrescribing capabilities, implemented in 2007, substantially reduce the amount of time spent managing requests and provide a more secure and accurate process, significantly reducing the potential for dispensing error and resulting in fewer phone calls for clarification.

The pharmacy is located on the first floor of the health center at 10 Gove Street in East Boston. To reach the pharmacy, call 617-568-7205.

A vital part of the community for over 35 years, EBNHC provides easily accessible, high-quality health care to people who live and work in East Boston and the surrounding communities without regard to age, income, insurance status, language, or culture.

We are the leading health care provider in our service area, and among the largest community health centers in the country. During the past three decades, EBNHC has grown to care for more than 300,000 patient visits per year—more than any other ambulatory care center in New England. We deliver 1,000 babies annually, and our Pediatrics Department cares for almost every child living in East Boston.
