Cradock and EBNHC Receive Award from English for New Bostonians
East Boston, MA, September 24, 2014—Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rachel Kaprielian will present East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) President John P. (Jack) Cradock with a certificate of recognition from English for New Bostonians and the English Works Campaign on October 15, 2014 at the Fenway Center at Northeastern University. EBNHC is receiving the recognition for the committed efforts of its Learn at Work program, part of the EBNHC Education & Training Institute.
Learn at Work, launched in 2010 by the Commonwealth Corporation, helps EBNHC employees whose first language is something other than English. The main focus is on building better English writing skills, particularly as they relate to a professional environment. EBNHC partners with the YMCA International Learning Center (ILC) on the program. YMCA ILC received the two-year grant in 2013 on behalf of EBNHC and is the service provider. Last year approximately 15 EBNHC employees completed the program.
“Our workforce is a reflection of our diverse community and, as such, it is important to equip our staff with the skills needed for long-term success in the workplace,” said Manny Lopes, EBNHC CEO. “Programs like this one and others offered through our Education & Training Institute are what make our health center an employer of choice in the community.”
EBNHC President Cradock has been instrumental in the development of workplace advancement programs such as Learn at Work. “Empowering our staff with the skills needed in today’s workplace and today’s world also strengthens the care we provide as a health center,” Cradock said.
The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center has been a vital part of the community for more than 40 years, providing easily accessible, high-quality health care to all who live and work in East Boston and the surrounding communities of Chelsea, Revere, Everett, and Winthrop. EBNHC handles 300,000 patient visits per year—more than any other ambulatory care center in New England.
