Boston Globe Names EBNHC a Top Place to Work for 2021

East Boston, MA, December 6, 2021—East Boston Neighborhood Health Center has been named one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts in the 14th annual employee-based survey project from the Boston Globe.

Top Places to Work recognizes the most admired workplaces in the state voted on by the people who know them best—their employees. The survey measures employee opinions about their company’s direction, execution, connection, management, work, pay and benefits, and engagement. The employers are placed into one of four groups: small, with 50 to 99 employees; medium, with 100 to 249 workers; large, with 250 to 999; and largest, with 1,000 or more. East Boston Neighborhood Health Center was ranked 16 in the largest category, with 1,400 staff members.

Founded during the Civil Rights Movement, EBNHC provides high-quality care to all without regard to age, race/ethnicity, insurance status or ability to pay. EBNHC is the largest community health center in Massachusetts and one of the largest in the nation, now serving nearly 120,000 patients who live and work in East Boston, Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, Everett, and the South End. EBNHC offers personalized, accessible and multidisciplinary primary care and specialty services, a satellite emergency facility and two on-site pharmacies to diverse Boston-area communities.

“We are grateful to our staff for their passion and commitment to serving our communities for more than 50 years and especially throughout the pandemic,” said Greg Wilmot, interim president and chief executive officer of EBNHC. “Their efforts have led to more than 100,000 vaccine doses administered in neighborhoods hit hardest by the pandemic. As one of the area’s the largest employers, East Boston Neighborhood Health Center strives to be an employer of choice and we take pride in being recognized for the seventh time by the Boston Globe.”

“The workplace is undergoing a once-in-a-lifetime transformation, and the companies that embraced that change, and put their employees’ needs first, really stood out,” said Katie Johnston, the Globe’s Top Places to Work editor.

The rankings in Top Places to Work are based on confidential survey information collected by Energage (formerly WorkplaceDynamics), an independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention, from more than 80,000 individuals at 363 Massachusetts organizations. The winners share a few key traits, including offering more flexibility to continue working remotely, tracking progress on efforts to support a diverse workforce, and, above all, remembering to have some fun along the way.

Top Places to Work online extras include sortable rankings and features such as showcasing companies that are going the extra mile to make their workplaces more equitable and to help employees connect with one another, and their communities, during the pandemic.
