Where we all belong
NeighborHealth is a leader in advancing health care diversity, equity, and inclusion for all our neighbors.
- About NeighborHealth
- Diversity, equity and inclusion
We believe that care in community is better, and that everyone regardless of their immigration status, age, ability to pay, gender, race, mental or physical ability, or religion deserves equitable access to high-quality health care. These aren’t just words to us–it’s our promise to our communities, strengthened by our dedication and passion.
We’re bringing better care beyond the clinic to truly meet the needs of our communities.
Our patients
- 75% of our patient population identifies as Latino.
- 87% of our patients are at or below 200% federal low-income thresholds.
- In East Boston, 58% of residents live in communal housing compared to 48% citywide.
- We provide care to many immigrant populations and those whose primary language isn’t English.
Our staff and leadership
- Our highest level of leadership includes Latinx men and women, people of color, immigrant families, and naturalized citizens.
- Over 30% of our employees are Spanish-speaking, and our Department for Medical Interpreting provides services in 9 languages.
- We partner with community organizations to make ASL interpreters available to our staff and patients.
- Over 50% of our staff live in our main service areas. We engage in a hyper-local hiring process and provide opportunities for advancement like tuition reimbursement and career ladders for qualifying positions.
- Our Education and Training Institute works with employees to create individualized career strategies, using both internal and external resources.
Ensuring our impact
We conduct annual HRSA Needs Assessments and ask our team to put our findings into practice. For example:
Behavioral Health Services
Our providers integrate behavioral health services across the health center to make sure their care is always provided with mental health in mind.
Our partnership with La Colaborativa has expanded behavioral health, healing art therapy, and CBT therapy services to provide more mental health services to more people.
CATCH
Our program for children with multiple disabilities and their family members provides much-needed care and support to an otherwise underserved community.
WIC
We operate one of the largest WIC programs in the state for parents and guardians of children under 5 years.
Chagas Disease Screening
NeighborHealth is the only provider in the U.S. where diagnosis and care of Chagas disease is a part of routine primary care in every clinical department. Chagas disease is mainly found in rural and impoverished areas of Latin America where health care services are sparse.
